Acorn Appears with AB Dick at CeBIT
Acorn Computers Limited is appearing on the A.B. Dick stand at CeBIT 93
demonstrating its electronic publishing system targetted at the pre-press
market. Acorn is also showing off its publishing system for the professional
publishing and graphical design markets on its own stand.
The systems being shown comprise an Acorn 32-bit RISC computer, together
with a 256-level greyscale flatbed scanner, a range of extremely fast high
quality laser printers for proofing and direct plate production, Impression
II publishing software from Computer Concepts Ltd, and postscript drivers
for easy output to image typesetters.
Using Acorn's Pre-Press system, customers can easily produce work from the
simplest A4 sheet, to a multi-page catalogue, to a prestigious brochure. It
combines the power and performance of Acorn's latest computer technology
(for which it won a Queen's Award for Technological Achievement last year)
with professional software and peripherals. The Impression II software is
easy to use, yet powerful enough for the most demanding of tasks. The whole
system is one of the fastest on the market allowing changes in documents to
be made almost instantaneously. The system price includes a comprehensive
training package.
A printing job management system for the Pre-Press system will also be
demonstrated which provides intelligent window menuing such that a complete
novice can use the system without any special training.
Acorn's Professional Publishing Marketing Manager, Simon Woodward said he
was delighted to have the opportunity of appearing with A.B.Dick. "For
businesses looking to do their own typesetting on a limited budget, the
Acorn and A.B. Dick systems provide the most sensible and cost effective
solutions available" he said.
"Acorn's Publishing system is unique in the world of electronic publishing.
We ship more 32-bit RISC based personal computers than any other
manufacturer in the world; and our ARM3 32-bit processor together with our
easy to use RISC operating system and applications software have created a
publishing system which outperforms the highest specification systems from
most other publishing system vendors, yet falls within most budgets.
